Saturday 29th April - walk **** Landguard Nature Reserve - Sunny and warm.

Perfect spring day with wall to wall sunshine, light winds and very mild, ideal for a morning in the garden doing my exercises while Mag potters in the garden with her arm improving very slowly. As we had to go and do a big shop at Lidl, we decided to stay local today so I packed a picnic and we drove down to The Manor to do some Linett spotting at one of our favourites, Landguard Nature Reserve. Arriving just before 1.30 we set off through the blackberry bushes and soon spotted the red breasted linnets with loads of bunnies including several youngsters:) It was fairly quiet as we ambled along taking in how lovely it is here until we reached the River Orwell with a few large container ships in Felixstowe docks with loads of yachts out enjoying the sea breezes. We sat by the concrete gun emplacement by the small wooden pier to enjoy the views and our lunch:) The only downside was some dopey dog walker had covered dog crap in shingle and I unfortunately sat is, you just can?t believe some peoples stupidity!!!! Luckily it did not spoil our lunch, we were just about to leave when the bright yellow Harwich foot Ferry appeared so we waited for it to land so I could get some pics. It then headed off as we continued along the beach, motoring really close to the container ships where it was completely dwarfed. We carried on to the wooden walkway and back over the short grass past the tank defences spotting loads of pigeons and more linnets, a magpie and a fleeting glimpse of a wheatear. We walked over the top of the small hills and saw windsurfing mate Michael G out on his E ? surfer so we carried on along the beach to Squiz Lane to get a closer look, stopping to talk to Al Wizz and Peter G another couple of windsurfing mates. Then home to change out of my dirty shorts before going shopping having just learned that Ipswich Town FC had won 6 ? 0 and have been promoted to the Championship ? come on you blues, they have been on fire lately:) Then home for a well deserved cuppa and cake and hopefully we are going for a walk with the lovely Maeva with her mum and dad of course tomorrow, fingers crossed for more good weather!
